// FAQ
What the app does, and what it doesn't
Privacy, how XP is calculated, import, Premium. Every answer comes from how the app actually works, numbers included.
Data and privacy
Is my training data sent anywhere?
No. Never. All the calculation (XP, levels, targets, quests, stats) happens on your device, from data stored locally. The app even shows its status at all times: 100% local: no data sent.
Only three actions use the network, and none of them carries your sessions: buying Premium through Stripe, the Feedback button that opens the website in your browser, and the app's first load.
Do I need to create an account?
There are no accounts in MY LEVEL LIFT. Not for the free version, not for Premium. No sign-up, no password, no server-side profile.
Premium is activated with the email you bought it with and a signed license code, verified directly on your device. The check is local and works offline: no request is made to find out whether you are entitled to it.
Can I back up or recover my data?
Yes, in Settings → Data, and it's free:
- Full JSON export, readable and re-importable
- Import of a previous backup
- Encrypted backup on the device, protected by a passphrase
Since everything is local, uninstalling the app erases your data. Export it before switching phones: it's the only way to take it with you.
Does it sync across devices?
No, and it isn't planned in the short term. There is no server, so there is nothing to sync. Moving from one device to another goes through the JSON export.
It's the deliberate flip side of "nothing is sent": we can't promise both.
The progression engine
How is XP calculated?
From real volume, set by set. A loaded set earns 0.3 XP per kg × rep. A bodyweight set earns 3 XP per rep. Sets flagged WARMUP_SET are ignored.
Each exercise has its own level. Reaching level n costs 1,400 × n^0.7 XP, which is 4,319 XP at level 5 and 12,950 at level 24. Meanwhile, your global XP goes up by +100 per session, +150 per validated target, +50 per record and +200 per quest.
What's the difference between a rank and a tier?
Two scales that move forward in parallel.
Your rank depends on your global XP and describes you as a player: Rookie, Initiate, Regular, Athlete, Veteran, Legend, Icon, Mythic. The first threshold is at 10,000 XP, the last at 2,300,000.
The mastery tier depends on the level of a given exercise: Awakening, Initiation, Discipline, Mastery, Refinement, Expertise, Ascension, Transcendence. Your squat can be in Mastery while your bench press is still in Awakening.
Does the app decide my weights for me?
No. Nothing is ever applied automatically.
The engine scores your session against your target, looks at the trend over your last 4 sessions, then suggests a next step: one more rep, one more set, more weight, keep the target, or a deload of −10%. Each suggestion shows its confidence (high, medium or low) and the numbers that triggered it.
You accept, edit or reject it. It's advice, not an order.
What happens if my exercise isn't recognized?
The catalog recognizes 93 exercises across 11 muscle groups, with their equipment variants.
An exercise outside the catalog still works: it earns XP, levels up and gets targets like any other. It just doesn't appear in the muscle group analysis, because the app doesn't know what it trains.
Importing sessions
Which file format do I need?
A CSV with these columns: title, date, exercise, weight, reps, setType, time, distance, rir. The rir column (reps in reserve) is optional.
A session is defined by the title + date pair. The import screen offers a sample CSV to download, and you can also paste the text directly without using a file.
What happens if I re-import the same file?
Nothing breaks, and no XP is credited again. A session that is already there with identical content is simply ignored.
If the content changed for the same title and date, the app asks what to do: update, keep both, or cancel. In every case, XP already earned stays earned: deleting a session never removes the XP, levels or badges you've obtained.
Can I enter a session by hand?
Yes. Manual entry lets you build a session exercise by exercise, set by set, with weight, reps and RIR. A rest timer and a note field are available for each exercise.
Use it if your training app doesn't export CSV.
Premium
What exactly does Premium unlock?
Four modules, all about reading your progress:
- Advanced stats: period comparison, per-exercise curves, weekly tonnage, trends, activity calendar, timeline, searchable records
- Program analysis: sets per week and per muscle group against a reference range, frequency, push / pull balance
- Explainable coach: observation, interpretation, suggestion, why; plus a consolidated progress report
- Premium content: 8 extra quests, 8 badges and 8 titles
Does Premium make me progress faster?
No, and that's a rule, not a formula. The progression engine is identical for everyone: same XP calculations, same levels, same targets, same ranks.
Premium quests never give XP either: their reward is a badge or a title. Premium sells analysis and comfort, never an advantage.
How much does it cost, and what happens when it expires?
€5.99 per month, €49.99 per year, or €99 as a one-time lifetime payment. The annual plan comes to about €4.17 per month.
When a subscription expires, the Premium modules close and no data is deleted. Your XP, levels, badges and your whole history stay intact, and the rest of the app keeps working normally.
The app
Does it work without a connection?
Yes, fully. After the first launch, the app and its resources are cached: import, calculations, stats, quests and collection all work in airplane mode.
That's the normal way it runs, not a degraded mode.
Is it available on iPhone?
Not yet on the App Store. The native app is distributed on Android, in a Google Play closed test for now.
The web version runs on iOS through Safari and can be added to the home screen, but it hasn't been validated on iPhone: I'd rather promise nothing about it until it's been tested.
How do I join the test?
The closed test has a limited number of spots. Leave your nickname and the address of the Google account you use on the Play Store from the home page: you're added to the list and you receive the install link by email.
It has to be your Google account address, otherwise access can't be opened for you.
